ABOUT OUR TEAM
We are the oldest continuous women's rugby team in the state, possibly the United States. Our history starts in 1976, when we were created alongside the Missoula All-Maggots. Our mission is to foster women’s rugby and support and develop amateur athletes, regardless of identity, sexuality, ethnicity, body type, religion, or ability. Missoula is our home, but our players come from around the country with diverse backgrounds and experiences. Importantly, we all share a passion for the sport, a love for having fun, and dedication to growing our community.

Win the 3rd Half No matter the scoreboard, Betterside is committed to having a good time. Win or lose, we always win the 3rd half by celebrating the game, our opponents, and each other.

Inclusivity for All We welcome everyone, regardless of background, sexuality, gender, identity, or body type. Rugby is for everybody, and so is Betterside.

Pride in Community We are proud to create a safe and welcoming space for LGBTQ+ athletes and allies. Every player deserves to belong, to play, and to be celebrated. We do not tolerate discrimination or hate. We support our trans players on and off the pitch.

Empowering Women’s Rugby Betterside is dedicated to supporting and growing women’s rugby across Montana. Many of our players have gone on to start new teams in our state and beyond, carrying forward our spirit of community and connection. We strive to provide support for our young players and consider the High School team an extension of ourselves.

Building a Village To be in a Village, you must be a villager. That means showing up even when you’re tired, supporting your teammates, and embracing the reality that community can be messy but also deeply rewarding. We are a team, and we act like one, on and off the field.

Once a Bettersider, always a Farsider Community doesn’t end when your body tells you rugby has taken its toll. We support and accept guidance from our Farsiders, who are the foundation of our team and the reason we still exist. Their experience and dedication keep our spirit alive and our community strong.
International Gay Rugby
By joining IGR, we aim to connect with other LGBTQ+ teams around the world and strengthen our community through mutual support and inclusion.
The IGR’s values closely align with our own, promoting diversity, equality, and respect both on and off the field. As part of this global network, we’re proud to stand with an organization that provides vital resources, advocacy, and support to inclusive rugby clubs worldwide.
The Betterside WRC has a history of being inclusive to the queer community, many of our players identify as LGBTQ+ currently and we have had a plethora of players since our start in 1976. We have nonbinary and trans players, we are committed to creating an inclusive space for all athletes and we are proud to be a part of the IGR. We advocate for the rights of all players and stand against discrimination together as a community. #RUGBYFORALL
